New Albums February 13, 2026
New Releases 2/13/2026
I am a little later than I would like to be posting this, but you know, it was a busy holiday weekend and blah, blah, blah. But let's not waste anytime and just get right to it.
Have I Listened to This Artist Before: No
Standout Tracks: “City,” “Lucy,” “Kiss,” “Funeral,” “Crazy Bitch Song”
First Impressions: I had never heard of this woman before. Apparently, she had a minor hit from her first EP in 2020 that was big with the TikTok crowd. This album is great. It’s her sophomore record, and I think I will go back and listen to her first one. Her dad is an Icelandic composer and musician whose name is Ragnar, and I love that. He co-wrote some of these songs and looks like he helped with production. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. These 13 tracks are all insanely catchy. Extremely well produced. The lyrics are fun. She’s 22, and these songs sound like they were written by a 22-year-old, and that is not a dig at her at all. I love her voice, and she does really interesting things with it melodically. I feel like this is the kind of record that could really blow up. And I kind of hope that it does.
Would I Buy This Album: Yes
Have I Listened to This Artist Before: Yes
Standout Tracks: “Beautiful People,” “Norf Side,” “BPOTY,” “Liftin’ Me Up,” “Ode to Nikki” “To B Honest” “Right Here, Right Now”
First Impressions: I have always loved Jill Scott, and when I saw this album was releasing, I thought to myself, it feels like it has been a minute since she released something. And I was right. Her last album, “Woman,” came out in 2015. It may have been 11 years, but she hasn’t missed a step. I have always loved how Jill Scott’s songs feel like they are poems set to music, and there is so much of that here. Her turns of phrase are so cool and unexpected. Scott’s music is always a celebration of the black experience, particularly the black female experience, and it’s cool to be a passenger to witness that. How it feels to be a black woman in her fifties. These songs run the gamut. There are serious tracks. Cheeky tracks. Dance tracks. A guest verse from Too $hort. Truly something for everyone.
Would I Buy This Album: Potentially
Charli XCX - "Wuthering Heights"
Have I Listened to This Artist Before: Yes
Standout Tracks: "Dying For You," "Always, Everywhere," "Chains of Love," "Altars," "Eyes of the World"
First Impressions: This album is not only the follow-up to Charli's career making album, "brat," it's also the soundtrack to Emerald Fennell's apparently very loose adaptation of "Wuthering Heights." I'm not seeing the movie until tomorrow but I can say that this record is a triumph. There aren't any references to Heathcliff or Cathy (sorry, Kate Bush), but you can feel the inspiration. The tortured love songs. The lush orchestral arrangements. From the release of first single, "Chains of Love," fans felt like this was Charli going all the way back to the feel of her debut, "True Romance" and she confirmed that a few days before this album came out. This album has been on constant repeat since it came out. I'm obsessed. This is the perfect post "brat" album. It really drives home what an amazing artist Charli is. She won't be pigeonholed. With "Wuthering Heights," Charli continues to be one of the most fascinating musicians currently in the game.
Would I Buy This Album: I pre-ordered it months ago
There you have it. A really solid week. Honestly, Charli ate and we knew she would. What do you all think? Did you listen to any albums I missed that I should check out? Let me know in the comments.
